Haveli Gokul Niwas is a traditional Rajput haveli of the Jhala clan, offering an authentic glimpse into rural life in Rajasthan. Situated in Talawada Village, Chittorgarh district, this heritage haveli is an ideal base for exploring the southern part of Rajasthan, known for its rich tribal culture, wildlife, and rural landscapes.
Located on National Highway 08, between the historical cities of Udaipur and Chittorgarh, Haveli Gokul Niwas is a short 20 km diversion from Mangalwar town. The Jagir of Talawada was granted to Thakur Aman Singh Ji, a descendant of Jhala Man, who made the ultimate sacrifice for Maharana Pratap in the Battle of Haldi Ghati over 400 years ago.
Talawada, a small village of around 2000 residents, is home to the Rajputs of Jhala clan, along with Brahmins, Vaishyas, and Shudras, with farming being the primary occupation. The region is well known for opium cultivation.
The haveli is named after Thakur Gokul Singh Ji of Talawada (1870-1930) and is built using the region’s distinctive gray sandstone. A beautiful blend of Rajasthani and Mewari architecture, Haveli Gokul Niwas is a true reflection of the heritage and culture of Rajasthan.
